prayer books and diplomas

prayer books and diplomas

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

prayer books and diplomas

you were my sensuous Alma mater

schooled me in matters intended

for confessional repercussion

i gladly sinned in your classroom

repeated courses

knelt by the desk to be absolved

prayed for one more close call

at midnight

grounding seemed insignificant

you were the only lesson

i cared to study

and when graduation came

my cap and gown disheveled

my smile still slightly perplexed

but my heart proud of its degree.

This poem tweaked my mind. One part of me was thinking how it’s graduation & all that. Yet I’m not getting any kind of kid stuff here. It’s “adult-only” as drawn with kid’s crayons maybe. Such twists I find a fascinating aspect of the way your mind works (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

so many layers to write about in this poem Jacob mixed with one's own fun times at school.

thank you, andrew. Appreciate your visits.

I absolutely loved this one because it brought back memories of a teacher's assistant I dated after graduation. I gave student remarks for our class and went around after sharing hugs and handshakes. I leaned in close to her and said, I've been waiting all year for an excuse to do this...

Every sin is a lesson, and serial offenders get an extraordinary education, even though the graduation walk might be more like a head-bowed perp walk... sometimes on the way to the wedding altar. Probably not the thoughts when you crafted this one, but my thoughts after reading a few times. I always enjoy your originality, J. Good stuff!

Hmmmm- your heart proud of the degree- well as long as you are proud of the achievement who are we to argue- what we set out to achieve - what we achieve- being content with outcome is most important - we live we learn we fall we rise - we gain wisdom and we become wise- as long as we don’t regret- well written🌹

You are welcome Jacob.
I believe You were so much in Love that You couldn't focus in studying, now I hope it wasn't the teacher because it would be even more hard :)

university is a lesson we learn from and through, meet many different people and learn how to communicate with them, to grow not only with our persona and studying, but yes, with our hearts too!

You brought memories to my mind, thank You for the enjoyable read.

Reads like a " Me and Mrs Jones" affair Jacob.(now that's a great song)
Love the title. I have no diplomas, books, and have prayed only twice, even though a non believer, both times when my old mum was close to death.
Hope you are well.
