Social Slavery

This poem depicts thoughts in my mind about social conformity, We are all so beautifully unique, a beauty that not all are willing to shoW, worried about how society's reaction will go. BE YOU.

Are we free? 

By what meets the eye we seem to be, for this is a democracy.

But what is free? 

Simply having the power to vote,

just seems so "rote"....

We are all enslaved to social ideals and expectations

that aren't easily waived. 

Do you CONFORM? or Rebel against the NORM? 

This determines just how FREE you have really set out to be..

Society disgusts me nowadays and alot of us have fallen to the system. The book '1984' is a perfect example of this. And you're correct to question 'what is free?' Because is there such a thing as 'free' anymore or is it just another word in our vocabulary?
