Beans and Rice

Beans and Rice

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

Beans and Rice,
the good life for
the man that has
love in his heart.

And the inability
to earn a promotion.

We may be poor,
we may be proud,
he says aloud,
but Uncle Sam
greases his
palm every
month.

Is he
working poor,
or just a
poor worker?

Financial bumps
always occur,
and people
usually ride
them out,
but how does
one go three
years without
work?

Maybe I'm the a*****e
because I live in a place
that's booming economically,
but what do I know?

I must be a jaded
m**********r because
my view of humankind
is dimmer than a
burnt-out black light.

Ah well, I guess
I need to walk
a mile in
another's shoes
to truly appreciate
their pain, but
I'm betting
their shoes
won't fit.

What can I say,
beans and rice
sound like a plan
for dinner tonight.

From scratch cooks - like me - make it righteous...

You haven't lived until WalMart turns you down to be a "Greeter" and unemployment tells you you made too much by 50 dollars (after taking a more than 5 grand pay cut AND a 220 mile one-way commute for the job that just poofed) to qualify for ANY extended benefit. Facts? Don't become 50, don't make more than 40K, remember unemployment and any 401K payouts are taxable (AND they add a take out penalty to cash out the 401), don't get disabled -by anything - AFTER you get unemployed... and such a host of other 'thingies' - chuckling here.

Don't take life so serious you can't live. OR cry so hard you can't help someone else.

Being angry at what others WANT you to think is quite different to actually thinking something through... treating symptoms doesn't do diddly to the Problems. One person getting 800 dollars a month in benefits didn't cause the problem, Hell, 1000 people getting that much isn't even a drop in the bucket when you talk TRILLIONS - now is it? In three days... last Friday, This Monday and Tuesday the stock market lost 1.2 TRILLION Dollars of value.

Today they said Europes Market is tanking BECAUSE investors are AFRAID France MIGHT lose its AAA rating... f*****g MIGHT!!!... all the s**t is happening to plan, whose plan? Someone is profitting from the sales and the lowering values. Nothing is created but profits are being taken.

Enjoy Beans and Rice while you can still get them.

Oh hell yes! been there done that...still doing it in fact. Working poor is right, we live to pay taxes while the rich get their rocks off on not paying. Love this!

...
. poetry as poignant as this can only be born in brutal truths ... i live on a few slices of bread ... some cheese ... lots of coffee and smokes ... i dunno where the formula for getting back into the system is ... but i know that this could happen to anyone ... anywhere ... and at any time ... i was watching in the actor's studio on television ... it took mickey rourke 14 years ... to get back into the system ... i heard and i wished instantly that i never have to walk in his shoes ... i wouldn't be able to take it ... he succeeded in making me panic ... the good kinda panic ...

Amen. Beans and rice is good s**t. Hard work is good s**t. Sitting on the couch watching Dr. Phil and reruns of Magnum PI is pathetic. I'd rather eat broken glass than to stay home and rot everyday. I'm not judging anyone, but, there're a lot of lazy mofos sucking that government techno-tit right now. And, that's sad. And, anyone not trying at a time like this should have rusty sewing needles driven into their taints. Just my opinion. Great piece. Cheers!
