A Car Travels in the Distance

A Car Travels in the Distance

A Poem by Gracynn

A car travels in the distance
Two glimmers of light break darkness
They grow but my weak existence
For once holds its ground regardless

The lull of rubber on pavement
Puts my rattling thoughts to rest
Vibrations under foot augment
The decision my brain obsessed

My aspirations disappeared
Long before the choice made surface
Somehow my life volunteered
Light blinded my eyes as I braced

My breath caught before the car hit
The image replayed on stable loop
Like crashing waves that never quit

This was heart-wrenching but so peaceful at the same time. How do you do this? You're killer. Your word choice and how you develop your stanzas are solid, and your imagery is gripping. Love what you're doing.

Thank you so much! Your comment means a lot to me.
My breath caught before the car hit
The image replayed on stable loop
Like crashing waves that never quit

You just capture the excitement so well
