A Flashback to Yesteryear

A Flashback to Yesteryear

A Poem by Ironbutt
"

Sometimes we get chance to be young...sometimes we are young when we get the chance....

"
We quick released our rucks to the waiting 113 and rolled down the road..
got the last piece of the order and waited to lock and load..
The terrorists had penetrated the outer fence..
our mission was to stop them...from getting any further then this..
Six of us were just past 17 trying to be brave..
three of us were not old enough to drink..two just started to shave...
with M16s pressed to our cheeks it didnt matter at the time..
follow the plan as it was given to you...just might come out of this alive...
No bold head liners in the news but something was re secured...
a few of the bad guys took a trip to another world..
six pack of beers per man and a mess kit piled high with food..
when youre only 17 .... this is all it took to make life good...
I see pictures of some of my friends..back in their younger days...
looks like they were all having fun..and it should be that way..
but somewhere in those yester years... someone had to walk alone...
no cameras allowed back then....waiting for privileges to even call home..
Well Im finally old enough to drink in at least a dozen states..
but I recall alot of memories when I get a beer and a steak...
just follow the plan and try to keep up..
might get out of this a live....
here is to those who serve...
raise em high!
