The Beginning of a Legacy

The Beginning of a Legacy

A Poem by Richard Dotson, Jr.

It all started on the 27th day of September 1977.
It was the day my soul awoke and came down from Heaven.
Ever since then , my life has been nothing less than a blessing.
Sometimes, my world feels tight as if the walls are compressing.
It’s hard to but I still can’t seem to shake the Devil.
But that’s when I realize that half of the people are not on my level.
Twenty-eight years later and I’m coming of age.
I have finally managed to break the lock off of my cage.
The time is now…for I am getting now younger.
A boat load of food couldn’t cure my hunger.
Twenty-eight years…and the kid is more mature.
But hell, I’ve been causing chaos since the age of four.
I’m finally ready to make the next move.
I’m hitting them out of the park since I regained my groove.
In this day and age, the misinformed will never learn.
It’s good to be back. I never realized how good home is until you return.
