Death's Embrace

Death's Embrace

A Poem by Jade Mayhew
"

Another Brit Lit poem.

"

I cannot stop the sunset when 'tis night.

The looks of it still can't compare to thee.

Though like the darkness, thou hast put up a fight,

The nighttime conquers all, despite my plea.

The fire that once danced within thine eyes

Is now just paling embers in the dark.

I feel thy warmth receding, hear thy cries,

But am helpless as I watch thy fading spark.

Thy drooping lids betray the strength thy heart shows.

With tearful eyes, I watch thee sleep once more.

I shan't awake thee from thy fitful doze.

Thy time alive is but days anymore.

But I'll love thee until thy dying breath.

Until I see thee in the arms of Death.
