AN HEIRLOOM

AN HEIRLOOM

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

an heirloom tale/poem

"

AN HEIRLOOM
when asked
“what cha doin, aunty?”
my response
"makin' a rudder for a duck's butt"...
became a verbal family heirloom
often repeated by giggling family offspring
in classrooms from kindergarten to high school
which
led to many “notes home”
from slightly befuddled teachers
wondering why
so may rudders
were created on the coulter ranch
in the high plains desert of nevada...

I used to have a rudder for my duck's butt hair-do through my teens with an occasional spit curl in the front.

AFLAC! Duck Dynasty, don't they make duck butt-rudders? This is a delightful piece; many families have verbal heirlooms, sayings passed down through the years, words of wisdom or silliness. Thank you for the smile plastered on my face. take care...dan
