I Have Cerebral Palsy

I Have Cerebral Palsy

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Tight is the road,

Narrow is the mold.

A straight shot to an unknown end,

Yet, very clear as to where I finish.

My limbs know

Limited control.

Yes, “limited” is the word’s key…

I have Cerebral Palsy.

I know full-well how powerful the brain,

How much it can refrain.

For no matter how much I tell it to do what I wish,

It refuses to listen.

It may seem I’m here in chains

While the rest of the world reigns.

I’m here dreaming to be free

I have Cerebral Palsy.

My speech fails me,

My words come out as that of a turbulent sea.

Having to try hard to be heard,

I sometimes feel absurd.

Someday before God I’ll stand

When He takes my hand.

So I write these words

As my powerful sword.

I have Cerebral Palsy…

But Cerebral Palsy does not have me.

I am sorry for any disability anyone has. I had seizures for 10 years until I was prayed for by a young girl and Jesus healed me. With God all things are possible. Valentine

My pleasure to read your work and you are welcome.
Very touching and a nice piece of expression. My daughter has cystic fibrosis, I know the daily struggles she has. But she is so strong and determined and I can tell you are strong too. Keep your faith Melinda and if you have the time take a look at my poem "You" I wrote it for my daughter, I think you will like it.

Beautiful presentation and glad to see you using your mind to escape to some degree even though I understand it is not easy ever. Thank you for sharing a beautiful poem but a beautiful mind.

Thank you for sharing this poem. For those of us who are unfamiliar with the condition, this is very enlightening. You shared information, but you also shared a part of your soul.

There is power in your faith because your last line "Cerebral Palsy does not have me," means that you have already achieved your dream to be free. Even though you may still suffer from Cerebral Palsy, because of your faith, it is not your ball and chain. I pray for healing for you and the strength to continue writing. Cerebral Palsy is not able to keep you from inspiring, as you have just inspired me. Sometimes it is through our suffering that we are able to better realize our purpose, and I hope you see that you are full of meaning. So Keep Writing!
