Frankie and Johnnie

Frankie and Johnnie

A Poem by john l smith
"

legalities

"

Frankie and Johnnie were lovers

Oh Lordy, how they could love

But Johnnie found herself unduly discarded

When Frankie found another turtledove

Johnnie took her complaint to the adjudicator

She thought she had a good legal case

She had been subjected to a loss of face

And was looking to erase such foul face disgrace

But the adjudicator was Nellie Bligh

Who just happened to be Frankie’s new lie

And when she issued a statement of abatement

The caustic court case went completely awry

With Johnnie legally losing her loving guy

A higher court dismissed that debatable decision

Finding naughty Nellie in capricious conflict

But Johnnie has since volunteered a new vision

As she and Nellie have due processed an attraction

With each now employing affirmative interaction

I was noticing how you start out with 4 lines to the stanza, hemmed in by your usual rhyme & rhythm in good form. Then as the stanzas go by, it feels like you are reaching something of a fevered pitch & the lines & rhymes won't conform anymore, spilling this way & that way! I love the way your expanding form & cancerous rhymes resemble the real-time chaos of such impending legalities *smile* Fondly, Margie

You are one sly gent.
With all this legal intent.
To use this little retort
to satisfy a day in court.

Take care - Dave
