Savages

Savages

A Poem by Kena Dawn Augustine

Savages

The sting of your words concentrated
at my left temple,
As cold as a barrel
awaiting the blow.
These wounds have torn me apart.
So many hands have
Snatched away my substance until
all I am reduced to is bone.
Savages,
cave dwellers,
ready to run like a cannibal
With my heart
in your hands.

How can I go on aiming my arrows in midair?
Hitting nothing,
going nowhere,
relentless but hopeless.

My identity is formed in your merciless hands
and ignorant eyes
which see beyond the petty and toxic names
you throw at me.

Didn’t I coax your wounds?
Wasn’t I there?
Didn’t I let you lay your head on my lap,
and tickled your back?
But now I realize you eat your two helpings
of manipulation and a vindictive
Side, cleaning the plate.
And with your belly full
you are fully aware
of how to trap me.

Why did I even tell you my past?
Expose my vulnerabilities?
I wanted to share so much,
I knew it would last.
But if trust is thrown around
like a grenade in the summer wind,
It will blow in my direction.
Annihilate trust for good, rip apart my soul.

You are uncivilized
While I am civilized
You are unpolished and ferocious
While I am polished and kind.
You are a savage
And I am an angel.
And one day you will be reduced to the filth
you walk on
While I will ascend to the sky
you will never see…

Call a spade a spade.
Yes, we feel foolish at times when we trust others who take advantage of our generosity of spirit. Still, it is not the one who gives who is foolish. It is foolish to think you can go on taking and spoiling without consequence. The day will come, sooner or later, when the pure of heart will ascend and the foul ones will reap their reward as well.
This reads familiar to me... Well spoken and liberating thought.

Now that cuts right to the heart of the matter... very raw and powerful.... yes men can be cunning and ruthless when searching for female action saying anything they can to get you in bed then act like they don't know you. In the end you will be the one thriving and they will be left alone in the dust.

This imagery is absolutely stunning. Such a powerful vision of contrasts.. lives connected yet trust destroyed.. and the destiny of these lives. Words and actions expressed that convey the depth inside. Truly glad you're back!

WoW! that was ah...well while I want to use one word to embody that I won't. Given that it deserves so much more. Whoever it is she is describing I got a very vivid sense of the kind of person (if indeed such) he or she was. It gave me the impression her trust was taken advantage of more so than once. Your very expressive with you words and you where able to maintain your poetic flow while keeping a balance with the emotions and construction of the two characteristics involved. I love it, I say Kudo's.
