One Foot Behind

One Foot Behind

A Poem by Larry Dyson
"

"A story has no beginning or end; arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead." Graham Greene, The End of the Affair

"

Running out of time , one foot behind.

A very old saying and very old thought.

Did the thought come first

Or did the saying produce the thought.

Chicken or egg

I ve always thought that the egg was laid

So if God created the animals first

Were We behind at the

inception?

creation ?

the thought is always one foot ahead...time is the consideration of persistence of the material and the change of location of particles in space...thought is not really located in space and time...hence thought is always ahead...by at least a foot! So if one is essentially a "thought being" then he is behind if he considers it so, or he is ahead if he considers it so...if one is just a material being (body) then he will at times get eaten by the animals ;-)

philosophy aside, the essence of your write is stimulating and put simply and directly. Admirable.

maybe chicken and egg were both there from the very beginning :). some say that a question never rises until the answer to it is already there, waiting to be found :).

My Dear Writing Friend,
Your excellent write caused me to muse all day long, a most excellent write. I am sorry it took so long to post my thoughts but I have been away in the Bush. You as usual, have with word brush strokes painted a picture that begs the reader to ponder and think outside the box. Very well done.

Blessings, Laughing-Bear

So true, so true. Whenever we recollect a memory there is always something behind it that was the eternal causation of that memory as well as the outcome of that particular memory has in our future. It truly is a never ending cycle, whether we start at the beginning, or move toward the end, there is always something starting somewhere. Brilliant work, my friend.

Interesting and philosophical. Nice work.

To believe is to accept without foundation, thus sayeth the man who knew the answer to everything; the 'we' were still in the sweltering, melting pot clambering and gasping from the ocean. Maybe?

Being cheesy and referencing the circle of life (Lion King - yes, I watch Disney movies....). Is there truly and end and beginning or is it all a continuum, a never-ending circle? Where one begins, another one ends, so there never truly is a start and stop? Maybe it's a question that will never be answered, and possibly rightly so...it's enough that it just provides fodder for the grind...food for our ponderings. A person could spin themselves silly and fall over dizzy and blind being consumed by these persnickety conundrums!
