Bar Code

Bar Code

A Poem by Lucas Donnan

One after another after another after another
Eight hours of lining up a red laser over a series of thin and thick lines.
Is this a test or a sign?
Have we reached a point where the compression of data to be deciphered by machines
More important than what it is?
Will we one day need to scan a bar code to get into our homes because a key is too archaic?
If it goes further can the code you tattoo onto my neck be a smiley?
A false sense of individuality while still fitting within the system.
I could settle for that, but not for too long.
I'd rather be heard with a name and not by binary code.
