My Dear Friend

Written for my friend after she was put on life support after a suicide attempt

Learning to wear my scars with pride,

For it has been a bumpy ride 

I persevered and overcame 

I'm back on top and unashamed 

I'm growing, evolving, and finding my way

And learning that things will turn out okay 

I hope you learn these lessons too

I hope resilience will carry you through 

The world can be cruel; and days can be trying

I know you feel broken and you're tired of crying 

Stress and illness ,whether body or mind 

I know you are struggling ,and I hope that you find

Your strength and your happiness,

Your silliness and laughter

The will to go on

And to start a new chapter 

I love you my friend,

I don't want to part

I'm not ready for goodbye;

It would break my heart 

A decade of memories;

I know we have drifted 

But know you are loved

Despite any distance 

Each day we have choices for how we proceed 

And I'll always be here when you are in need 

I wish I could fix it, 

And I hope that you heal 

Do one day at a time

Until you're ready to feel 

There's better days coming,

You have to believe 

Let go of the past

And let yourself grieve 

Tomorrows a new day 

To stand up and fight 

Put on your brave face 

Until you see the light
