Loved and Lost

Loved and Lost

A Poem by MJ Rothlain
"

she loved someone else more than me...

"

They say it’s better to have loved and lost

Than to have never loved at all
Such may be sentiment at the end of life
Yet
When your heart burns with love
Like a city aflame
And the water does not come
The cool relaxed peace
And the once magnificent city is torn asunder
Leaving rubble
From which nothing so great will rise again
Or worse
When a taste of the brilliant calm coolness is felt
And there is hope for more
And suddenly… it’s gone
Leaving just a mere hiss
A sharp reminder of what could have been
When you are torn apart like this
And the fires are raging
And the pain is bitterly fresh
At this moment
Not a man exists who would rather have loved and lost
Than to have never loved at all.

I felt your heartbreak the more I read this poem. This is a really strong piece that I can relate to. The meaning is so true, I'm at a loss for words. Very good write!
