Contemplating time, God and my soul on my 70th birthday

A Poem by Nolo Segundo

70 is a milestone birthday where feelings of time running out, of mortality, cannot be ignored.

The time nears, be it days or years,
when my soul must fly and my feet
shall trod dusty earth no more,
and God says yes or God says no,
but go, my soul must go....

Thank you for entering your poem into my competition.

You convey so much in just five lines! This is what I love about poetry, the fact that a few words (or in this case lines) can speak so deeply to another.

The only certain thing we have in this life is death, we know it is coming but we do not know when, and we fill our days with people and memories in the hope we will discover what it is to truly be "alive".

This is fantastic.

Thank you for sharing it.
