Just A Dream

Just A Dream

A Poem by Breanna Ragland

My hand runs across your back,
As we touch for the first time in ages.
You reach for my face; you hold me.
I gaze into your eyes, I know you see it too.
Love.
True love.
I see it hidden deep behind those eyes.
You hide it... Why?
You stare intently into my soul.
You always had a way of making me melt.
I fall into your embrace; oh how I hope you catch me.
You told me it was okay to fall.
You said you'd always catch me.
You didn't... But I fell anyway.
I trust you.
I lean back... I see your kind face.
A face so misunderstood.
I understand your pain.
I run my fingertips over your jaw.
You truly are beautiful,
No matter what they say.
Your eyes... They bore me, still.
How I wan to see it all.
All of you.
I caress you, hold you.
You are mine.
Slowly, I feel it.
It's consuming me... Forcing me.
I lean closer... Closer... Closer.
You're just within my grasps.
But something holds me back.
No.
I can't, I won't.
You aren't mine.
But my hand still lays upon your back, my fingers are still upon your face.
I do love you.
More than anything in the world.
So I hold you.
I meet your eyes and we are locked.
You hold my gaze for what seems like decades.
And now we breathe in time together,
Our hearts race together.
I feel you.
I need you.
And slowly, we touch.
Your lips,
Mine... We connet.
Such intensity.
Such love.
Now you feel me.
Now you know.
You understand.
But as soon as it begins... It ends.
We weren't meant for this.
None of this was true.
Life has a funny way of tricking us all.
We never touched, felt... Kissed.
Nothing.
We weren't meant to be...
It was all just a dream.
