Unfulfilled & Vacant - now

Unfulfilled & Vacant - now

A Poem by rachelgeorgina
"

A short, rather morbid collection of words. The description of an end, of a moment, of a whole (yet short) life passed. A form of farewell, if you will. Or, perhaps, simply the description of one final moment.

"

Therein the shadows they lie

In watch and in simple wait

(There is fairly little to take)

For that one moment.

From the mountain peak they –

rasp and try to breathe

Drawing breath through time

Until that instant when...

Sun rises far ahead and

trees around sing a certain song.

Those shadows recede and –

Emerge do they, float forwards

And there, on the edge stood I

Staring down below, thoughtless

Free of fear and torment, finally.

Away from the hidden shadows, now –

Unbound and liberated

To let go, fall, collapse into the wind -

And cease to be anything, anything at all.

A short, leaping conclusion.

Yes, a conclusion.

To an empty, undreamed grief.

Grief of living, existing – of being-

Over, in that one bright moment.

Wow! You have a wonderfully musical and free-flowing style to this poem. I wish I could remember who else touched me in that way when reading. Perhaps Dickenson?
"And cease to be anything, anything at all. A short, leaping conclusion."
What a powerful statement, rich in detail. It makes the reader turn inward to make a self-examination.
Just a brilliant piece of work. Favorites!
