Is love real

Is love real

A Poem by Glee

We heard fairy tales about it as children
Our preacher talks about it on Sunday
We are told it is the greatest feeling one can ever have
We all want to experience it but we have to wait for the right moment
Love
True love
The love between a man and a woman
But do we want it so badly that we’re made to believe it’s real

The reality is so much different
Men want eye candy to carry around during the day
And to sleep with during the night
Perhaps a love will blossom along the way

Women want comfort, security
And all the pleasurable things the world can have to offer
But was it not the man to provide all of these things
Perhaps a love will blossom along the way

Marriage is all but we have to give
A bond of convenience
A symbol of security
A master of procreation
Companionship
Prestige
For that is all we had to give
Perhaps a love will blossom along the way

Some believe they shall never find true love
True love isn’t about looks and sex
It’s waking up every morning with the same person
And wanting them more each day
Its accepting the other with all their faults and weaknesses
Its making it through with the other in the good and bad times
Its feeling real pain when somebody is lost
Yes, true love does exist
And its proven by those who have been married for decades

Some believe that they shall never find true love
Women cry that the men do not have feelings
All they want is pretty looks and sex

Men complain that the women do not have love
They spend their lives waiting
Yearning
Hoping
That the right man will come by
And they do not want to say what they are feeling
Men will never understand women’s complex needs
Hence the end of true love

But take heart my dear
True love isn’t just between a man and a woman
It’s a strong desire for anything
It could be a child, a friend, a house, a job, a dog
Its about making the people smile when you walk into a room
Its about how you carry yourself
Its about respecting other people and their needs
Yes, it is possible
But first you must love yourself
And then reach out to others

You can’t touch love but you can see what it does
It brings beauty and happiness to life
Even animals can bear it
But it takes two to make it work

Yes indeed, true love does exist but it isn’t real until you experience it
