JAZZ

A Poem by redzone
"

...listening to Jazz again...

"
Jazz

Perhaps I am just getting older,
struggling to understand life’s dance,
or just from living alone
but I have turned,
listening to jazz once again
and its deep tonal mysteries.
There is something in its rich idiosyncracies
that appeals to my urge to return home,
to the deer and the hawk
to the old council lodges
and the circle dance;
broken for too long by self-serving philosophies
of a society that has lost its humanity.
~~~
“Kind of Blue” is an album that settles me,
comes closest to a round dance
that turns inside and outside of time.
It lets me enjoy my worn out jeans,
oft washed flannel shirt
and soft moccasins.
NOTE: “Kind of Blue” (1959) is the title of a Miles Davis
album that is one of his best in my opinion. Enjoy the music:
I've listened to jazz much of my adult life, so I can relate to the love of this music genre. The surprising part of your poem is comparing jazz to the Native values of life . . . very original & thought-provoking. I see KLGoode prefers a more "in your face" musical message, but I like instrumentals exactly becuz they present a blank slate upon which to impose each of our thoughts & feelings of the moment. I love the way you express your deep understanding & appreciation of Native ways. Thanks for read-requesting me on this . . . you know I will always be very pleased to read anything of yours, but especially things with a Native blush (((HUGS)))
The poem? Fantastic. Such is a work of art that makes one appreciate something they don't appreciate very much. Not a fan of this genre of music in general, being a literal sort of person I tend to lean towards more "in your face" music with an obvious message -- nevertheless your passion is evident here and makes the poem a worthwhile read.
this captures some of my feelings towards music and the meaning it gives to my life and writings - i often listen to music (jazz, bossa nova, classical crossover, and others) when writing/relaxing/traveling - and it has helped me a lot become better at thinking clearly and broadening my perspective - even helps me heal - gives me compassion, when i am alone, ruminating things over and over - a great write - i could relate to it :)
Worn out jeans and flannel shirts....who doesn't feel comfortable in those? As for jazz...I believe it is an acquired taste, but all genres of music can turn time inside out. Any song can bring us back to a different time, a different place, and bring back memories of different people. So listen to your jazz, my friend.....and sway with the peace it brings. Lovely write...although getting older? Hell no! :) Lydi**
