Light

Light (Poem #17)

 

 

The darkness is overwhelming at times,

and I need to hide

from the demons lurking there;

those insidious insecurities,

I know so well,

never leaving me alone.

 

There is light though,

I’ve seen it

               once

when you held me,

and told me,

if we face the dark

               together,

the dawn would come.

The first verse alludes to depression, maybe PTSD. The second describes one of its primary antidotes. This one's brevity makes it all the more powerful. Well done.

This poem is so beautiful and inspiring redzone. The first lines of each verse are a poem of their own. The juxtaposition of dark and light, demons and dawn, is brilliant. Great language and cadence. Dramatic, flowing verses. “If we face the dark together”- yes. Brilliant.

Unfortunately I resemble this poem at times. You really did a great job sketching out the feeling involved with not being sure about yourself. But those last lines are definitely the prescription necessary to help pull out of the nose dive. What a great piece...Awesome.
