A Lullaby to Romance

A Lullaby to Romance

A Poem by Maxinne Marie

Haunting melodies cradled

memories of dark romance.

The ancient piano he played

put me in a trance.

Such mystery and solace

when we held each other’s hands.

That moment, all the winged ones

serenaded and we danced

silently, as we both feared

our sweet, forbidden romance.

A lullaby still haunts me

sighing memoirs of that chance.

"How sweet it is to be loved by you" is what comes to mind as I read your work... your way with memories and words should make anyone take notice and appreciate your talent(s). Your imagery and flow are wonderful. Your word choice, as usual, is quite wonderful.

I can feel that sensation inside that comes with haunting memories and I can hear the sounds of the lullaby in the background.

This is one of my Favs from you.

Oh, "what could have been" echoes in the memories of so many people. As many others still regret what they sacrificed for a romantic trist - that never looked as good as it did in the moonlight. Sometimes it's just the temptation of the "forbidden" that prompts the urges of those close enough to taste it's delecacy.
Fantastic job writing this one. I loved it and enjoyed it.

When reading this I can picture myself back in a dark old colonial room,

The ancient piano he played
put me in a trance.

Dancing to a song no longer being played..... Ok just my own imagination. This is a bittersweet piece. The words take me to a place of pain and sorrow. I like the medium you have going on here. dark, yet romance,
Thank you for sharing.

The mixture of sweetness and pain here is a pallable combition that leaves no doubt as to the recognition of the balance in life that we all must face when we take chances.

Lovely piece...

Beautiful work, Maxinne! I think my favorite lines are:

"That moment, all the winged ones
serenaded and we danced
silently, as we both feared
our sweet, forbidden romance."

I really can't think of one single negative thing to say! Keep up the great writes!
