I'm Somebody! Who Are You?

I'm Somebody! Who Are You?

A Poem by Stephanie
"

An imitation of Emily Dickinson's "I'm Nobody! Who Are You?" for my junior portfolio.

"

I’m Somebody! Who Are You?

I’m somebody! And aren’t you?
Aren’t you somebody, too?
Two somebody’s are friends- but wait!
They’d break us up, I know!

It’s a shame to be nobody!
So sad and all alone
To have no name and none to claim
And can’t take one out on loan!

I'm Nobody! Who Are You?

Emily Dickinson

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us - don't tell!
They'd banish us, you know!

How dreary to be somebody!
How public like a frog
To tell one's name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

Two somebody's are friends- but wait!
They'd break us up, I know!

~~this is clever... it's like saying "nobody-ies" have no right to have friends or to be happy

it's so sad...T_T

It's a shame to be nobody!
So sad and all alone
To have no name and none to claim
And can't take one out on loan!

the last stanza made me sad.

it is a shame to not be loved........then you are empty. You are changing your style drastically :) More dramatic and personal. I like

i love this. spinning nobody into somebody. this poem both ways is almost a call to people to know who they are even if they think they are nobody..i like it with somebody though :)

I like your description of a Nobody
"So sad and all alone
To have no name and none to claim
And can't take one out on loan!"
And sure enough, nobody's a nobody, we're all a somebody ...
We just have to delve into ourselves to know who or what we really are
Nice piece!

To be honest don't know the poem you speak of but yours is quite interesting and creative... we do tend to feel more like someone when we have someone to love and who loves us in return so I can relate to this piece.
