Please Take No Offence

A Poem by thenakedverse
"

this is perhaps the quickest poem ive ever written and certainly one of the most pointless. but it made me laugh:) ps... i love robert frost.

"
robert frost once told me
that nothing gold can stay
i wonder what had happened
to make him feel that way
he must have had a heartbreak -
someone left him at the prom?
I wonder who abandoned him-
his daddy or his mom?
or maybe he has suffered loss
and buried next of kin.
perhaps he was the golden boy
until he met his twin.
its possible his turtle died
and left only the shell -
or he got the chicken pox
and never did get well.
i heard he made a pumpkin
that a neighbor boy had smashed -
and found a lotto ticket
that was too late to be cashed.
He could have put on youtube
a video sensation -
before they sued for copyright
and put him on probation
id like to visit robert frost
and ask him how he faked it-
gold cant stay or float away
for gold is what you make it.

Nothing Gold Can Stay is my favorite poem by Robert Frost. I suppose one must be over fifty to truly appreciate its meaning. The fires of the ancient hearth...the yellow of a lover's hair, sunsets and sunrises counted until we have "measured out our lives with coffee spoons" to paraphrase T.S. Eliot. I do not think Frost was sad or embittered but rather wistful and reminiscing the days gone by. I like this bit of sardonic humor at Robert's expense however...it made me smile and no doubt Mr. Frost is smiling too.

This was really beautiful, and it made me smile. Perfection, really.

Some of the ones that just fall our of your head are sometimes the best, this is hysterical and there's a message in it too. Very cleverly written. Tell Bob I said hello when you catch up with him again. :)

'Gold is what you make it' - is very clever. Very effortless rhyming and and a lot of fluency in the poem. It is told in humor but with truth added.

this made me think of Ponyboy in the "Outsiders"

i was in the play at Logan where i teach.

but it also reminded me of alanis morrisette's "isn't it ironic"

a delightful "quick" write..

the ones that come out like this..are often better than we think when we write them...

"gold is what you make it"

and...it is what you do with it that counts.

sometimes i think of my youth...this poem makes me think of the times i would like to go back knowing what i know now.

or maybe just go back more equipped to deal with the bullies or others that made some of us miserable...

torture them back maybe? who knows.

got into this one.
