HAPPY HOUR

HAPPY HOUR

A Poem by Mauricio Montoya
"

Have a drink

"

Happy hour

Night scene at a night club

Clatter chatter of endless words

As I Approach the counter

The bartender gives me a glass

Slowly, but surely,

I quickly down it for another.

Hoping I can control.

The insanity of every action,

Now that I’ve had too many

Knowing one is never enough.

Rarely do I see doubles.

How lucky can I get,

this for the price of one.

You know I’m on a roll

As soon as I hit the floor

I’m no longer in good standing.

as I’ve lost all hope.

Until I have another drink.

That keeps the  door,

revolving.

When will it all end.

If Only I could close it

And give the key to god.

"As soon as I hit the floor
I’m no longer in good standing." Oh this pun made me laugh, although the piece isn't comical in the least.

And I could write pages on alcoholism. This is a very true confession, I hope you find a way to solve your problem, liquor is such a demon liquid.

I sympathize. My brother had a drink problem which got out of hand and contributed to an early death. I think you are brave Mauricio tackling this head on. I wish you lots of luck.

This starts from a even tempo couple lines, and then its as if you forced me tor read faster the crazier the story got, and it happened so fast. Kinda like a night getting wasted.
Always talk about your faults and problems, sometimes its even better to write it.
Good luck

Oh I love this poem Mauricio. I hope you find away to put this savage beast of need to sleep and keep away from the drink. Wonderful poem! My prayers are with you Mauricio!

Good poem. Fun to read. Not exactly what I was looking for with my alcohol contest but it is a good poem in its own right. Just like Elizabeth, I really enjoyed that pun with the "no longer in good standing." Very funny.

tells the story well. I was lucky enough to be given a beautiful daughter who keeps in check that driving need to slip away.
