Religion

Religion

A Poem by Ricky Campbell

Who knew grown men could act like such children

That we would fight over a topic so absurd

Religion

Why do they bicker and fight if they're trying to find peace?

Very contradicting to say the least

There are countless religions in our world today

And what they all aim for is very easy to say

To please God and to do no wrong

All with similar key points but differing details

Some are the total opposites

They stand out and believe in what they want

They don't care what others are thinking of them

They want to find peace

That is the type of religion I admire

Not the kind who will nuke each other over something so minor

Violence is petty, brutal, and unnecessary

Seems difficult for most to understand

We can coexist in peace

By not stepping on or taking another mans land

If there is a dispute, there is no need to take it to the battlefield

Talk it through with one another, say how you really feel

All of our problems are so avoidable

People keep on overlooking this

We need to make a change to our world

And we can start like this

"once a man and twice a child and everything is for a while.........." men fighting over the faith since the beginning of the civilize world. "my god told me to do this", "my god told me to stop you", "my god told me to kill you", and on and on it goes.

Stick to your idealism and honesty of expression. Questions: how many ways can you convey the emotion and thoughts expressed in this poem? Imagery? Allegory? Satire? I support the emotion and the idea, but how can you make it hit home?

I don't think God ever intended to write Bible (or any other religious work) that preaches what you should not do, what is a sin, who is a traitor, who you should kill and who you should never lay a finger on. It's all man-made by egoistic minds who want to possess and control others. The only philosophy I find that is more or less peaceful is Buddhism (Hinduism as well).

I know I'm supposed to say something you can change but... 99.378... Which rounds up. Because I say it does. LOL

Very great piece of work here, I really admire the thought put into this piece,
you have pointed out some very valuable and just truths! I'm not shocked
that men would fight over religion though, men will fight
over anything, example- a woman that is playing them both!
(We can be idiots) anyways I believe in Jesus our Lord and savior,
but I have many Muslim friends and we love one another, so again
you point is absolutely right, I will not push my religion on you, but
I will suggest it, and if that person refuses then I pray for them, now that's
what God wants! Thanks for sharing your thought provoking piece
and b-blessed!
