Silver Linings

Silver Linings

A Poem by William Maisonave

There she lies

love in her heart

tears in her eyes

lonely in the light

in darkness she cries

warm salty tears

for today and tomorrow

for yesteryear

  There he goes

  a pep in his step

  a fork in the road

  He chooses his path

  and begins to slow

Caged in thorns

her head on her knees

she lifts her head

an irregular beat

  He grabs her hand

She his own

          Together they walk

          together they grow

She in the light

  He in the dark

          They walk along

          but soon they part

  He's only a man

She a dove

  He lives on land

She soars above

          connected somehow

          by a mutual love

          A similar struggle

          they've both endured

          As time crawls by

          they both mature

  He raises his head

  peers to the sky

She looks down below

and whispers...

          "Goodbye."
