                                                My Boys

I just wanted to say to my boys,

I may not always be here,

To yell at you and make you see reason,

So I wanted to say to you,

Treat women with as much love and respect,

As you would me.

Don't be a follower be a leader,

Always be kind and look out for your sister,

Like your uncles look out for me,

Be mindful of your father,

And look to him to see who and what a man is.

Because he is the best example.

I have to be honest some days I want to return you guys,

But no one would take you and I would miss you,

Even if you drive me up a wall more often than not,

Life is short and it goes by fast,

Before you know it you'll be men,

But be the best men you can be.

Think before you act,

Even if I don't we've established I'm looney,

Because every decision has consequences,

And you'll have to deal with them,

That's all I got for now,

Know I love you and I get it now "boys will be boys"

I would print this in a big font, put it in a frame and hang it on the wall in their room. it would look so much better than any certificate or diploma. and when they are big enough, they'll cherish this bit of wisdom.

My youngest starts school this year and the thought makes me cry...partly because his father won't be there. But also because he is my last child and the world is a crazy place. I worry about him as mothers do...
