Smell Warp

Smell Warp

A Poem by Searching 4 Serenity
"

I got a surprise for you...

"
The smell of a flower
holds strong calming powers
Down by the ocean bay
salty air chills the day
Walking in the kitchen
you smell some roast chicken
Stomach grumbles and begs
waking up to fried eggs
The smell of fresh coffee
leaves you feeling jolly
Sweet aroma of tea
fills your senses with glee
Springs heavy smell of pine
is quite simply divine
Grilling at a tailgate
hotdog to go sounds great
Sprays of a rushing spring
a scent that makes you sing
... ... ... ... ... ...
... ... ... ... ...
... ... ... ...
... ... ...
... ...
...
..
:

The smell of burning corpse
how's that for a poem warp?
Bodies rot everywhere
the scent makes you aware
Gunpowder in the air
get used to these smells, clair
Those smells you remember
have burned with the embers
We're in a war of death
so breathe your final breath
That scent of sticky blood
last thing you will smell... *THUD!*

This is a really powerful write. It really reflects a simple, calm, beautifully mundane everyday, just simple and happy. Then you contrast it so well with the horrific imagery of war, death, pain, etc... The ending sort of says to me that after someone experiences the horrors of war, they can't return to the simple, beautiful life. War takes you to a point of no return whether you face your final "thud" or not. Very strong write Henry

You're right. Had me remembering mornings with my parents. "All those many years ago." :) But the ending simply shattered that one to shards. Had me thinking bout all those killed in war, whether in gangs or terror. :(

Two very different things! Surprise!

I love the dichotomy of this piece.. each of the two separates being so distinctly their own poem in a sense, but held together by a common theme: the sense of smell. Very intriguing and well executed. Great Job!
