A Long Kiss Goodnight

A Long Kiss Goodnight

A Poem by Wesley L Dingler

"A Long Kiss Goodnight"

Sing, sing,
Of an honest night,
Of all that blossoms before my eyes,
May it never wilt or wither--
A gentle devotion
To wake and take me higher
When all else is silent

A long kiss goodnight--
Sleep is vain without it

Sing, sweetly,
A lullaby,
For all who hear the crying tide,
May it never tilt or tear--
A gentle devotion
To shake and make me inspired
When all else is silent

Along kiss goodnight--
Sleep is vain without it

So long,
Just for a while,
Very soon the sun shall rise,
May it never forsake us--
A gentle devotion
To wake and make me wiser
While nothing is silent

A long kiss goodnight--
Sleep is vain without it
