Handicap

Handicap

A Poem by zainul
"

Tribute to successful persons with disability

"
Life is neither poem nor prose
Life  is neither poppy nor rose

It may be smooth or harsh
Like pleasant breeze or burning brush

Everyone has to face the reality
With passion,commitment and ability

Perfect person may not win the prize
While a handicap may give surprise

Dream,devotion and drive for goal
May make one honored and successful

I greet challenged persons from my heart
You have conquered through your art

Your success is a lesson for us all
You will always shine and never fall

They should all the more be celebrated for making it in such a harsh, difficult world. Those who were lucky enough to make it and those who were not...they all deserve our love, respect and regard. Great and noble thoughts from you Zainul sir. My compliments.

I read this like the Proverbs of old. Seems like holy writing, nearly, rhymes to tell children in order to raise them well, and to teach them how to grow well. Good thinking on this poem

A disability is only a disability if you allow it to keep you from your dreams.
A physical, emotional, or mental handicap is simply a challenge to be overcome.
Very nicely written.

The disabled experience pains - physical and psychological - every second of their lives. Seemingly weak and unable to contribute much, according to the success standards of this "harsh, difficult world," their strength of character, as your poem clearly states, is often staggering.

Education seems to spend years cultivating the intellect, minutes instructing the character. Your poem is a fine tribute to the character of disabled people everywhere.

That's a beautiful message Zainul! I loved these lines - 'Perfect person may not win the prize / While a handicap may give surprise'.

It is impossible that all men be born equal, either socio-economically or in terms of physical/mental capabilities - but we all deserve a fair chance in life. The aim of every healthy group should be to ensure that people do not get marginalized for 'faults' which are no fault of theirs.

I completely agree with this poem. I enjoyed this line: Your success is a lesson for us all. You will always sine and never fall." How many people really stop to see this?
They do deserve our love our respect our friendship and to matter. Because they all do. We don't have control over things that we are born with but some how and some way they managed to learn to live with it and not miss one step.
Thank you for sharing this. Beautiful!

I very much enjoyed reading this poem and feel as though you really captured what life is. Everyone goes through something different whether its the 'pleasant breeze' or the 'burning brush'. Just because you've had a good life, does not make you successful or important or special. I feel like you made a good example in that when you said

Perfect person may not win the prize
While a handicap may give surprise

It is good to hear somebody respects those with challenges they can not help. And that through their disability, you learn a lesson. I believe the lesson for us all would be to cherish those things we do have in our lives.

Thank you for sharing. :)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem! Very well written and the first two lines are exceptionally clever:
"Life is neither poem nor prose
Life is neither poppy nor rose"
(By the way, is there a reason for the double space between 'life' and 'is' in line two?)
A great way to open your poem, as it immediately establishes a whimsical tone and further captures the attention of the audience.

I know that grammar is often disregarded in poetry, but I felt this sentence disrupted the flow of your poem, "Like pleasant breeze or burning brush." All you need to do is add either 'a pleasant breeze' or 'the pleasant breeze' to be more structurally sound. Otherwise, I'm a super fan of alliteration, so really enjoying this stanza!

"passion, commitment" Here you just need a space after the comma (unless this is intentional, in which case, please ignore this comment)! There are other grammatical inconsistencies throughout your poem, and they're not a major issue, but it did obstruct your poem's otherwise clear pace. You have constructed a very well thought-out poem, and it was a pleasure to read your work!
Well done!
