About Me

Hi! I'm charmed that you're reading my profile. I've been around the world a few times and currently reside in the United States. I'm very interested in people and different places and cultures. I like to know as many fascinating people as possible. Perhaps you're one of them?

I like classic literature, gothic and dark romance, sci-fi, horror, and to a degree young adult.

I like Austen, Shelly, Byron, Goethe, Radcliffe, Le Fanu, Hawthorne, Poe, and many more.

I like Gilman, M.R. James, and many weird and ghost fic authors, Lovecraft, noir crime Chandler, gothic romance du Maurier, comedy and unusual tales of Dahl.

I like fairy tales from around the world, including those collected by Ruth Manning-Sanders.

I like Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, along with Greek Myth, and other world mythologies and Arthuriana, Lord of the Rings.

I love history from all periods and regions of the world, particularly Dark Age and Early Iron Age Britain and France, Ancient Greece, Han to Tang dynasty China, the 18th and 19th centuries, the early 20th century.

I love hard sci-fi (the Martian / Ready Player One), grounded speculative fiction (Starship Troopers, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, most Philip K. Dick), and the occasional jaunt into space opera fantasy (Dunsany, Burroughs, Star Wars).

I like a lot of old classic movies, as well as a number of independent movies like Moon, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and Byzantium. I like intelligent movies that make me think and capture my emotions and imagination. Having said that, I grew up in the 80s, so I have a nostalgic attachment to almost anything from that decade, including the synthesizer, and the new synthwave / retrowave genre of electro.

Favorite bands include White Lies, Goldfrapp, Jon Crosby VAST, Cheaptrick, The Birthday Massacre, Royksopp, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Gary Numan, Trent Reznor's 21st century material and some of his older, the Cure, Deff Leppard, Queen, Tears for Fears, Heart, the Bangles, Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, Electric Youth, and so much more. If it has a touch of electro / synth and a catchy emotional beat, I probably like it. :-)
