It's not actually a book; it's a webcomic by Andrew Hussie and it's great if you want to read it (obviously you don't have to.) The book that you were reading that was mine was based on the webcomic, Homestuck, which is actually really awesome once you get to know everything. I'm warning though it about 6,867 pages so far and is still in progress. :)
