Why do people hate prologue but a cold opening?

I have heard so many times in writing classes not to use a prologue. I guess the thought is if the info in a prologue is needed then put in the body of the story. I understand what they are trying to say here, but I'm not sure I agree. I for one use prologues to set up my stories all the time. The whole prologue can be my hook.

However, I have notice no one says anything about not using a cold opening to a story. I mean most cold opening have the characters of the stories in them where a prologue does not need to have any characters in them but set up the world.

So, my question are:
Do you use prologues?
Do you skip them?
How do you feel about a cold opening instead of a prologue?
Do you see a cold opening the same as a prologue?

I seldom use a prologue with my work. Instead, like you, I often use a cold opening. A cold opening, when done correctly, will give the reader everything he or she needs to know about what is coming up.
