Now that our kids are both in school, I wanted to do something besides the usual mom stuff, something more intellectual than dishes or cleaning. For most of my life, I've heard my mom's stories of her family's escape from West Prussia after World War II (a former part of Germany that is now Poland, for those of you who don't know). With her, I began writing a memoir of sorts, more of a true-life novel I suppose, detailing those events. I think it's important to preserve family histories and stories, if for no other reason than to let the younger generation know their relatives as real people with real dreams, personalities and obstacles to overcome.

The more I wrote, the more I wanted to write, about a variety of subjects. I would love to see this book published, of course, but I'm also interested in writing about cooking, travel, nature, photography, really anything that interests me at the time.
