About Me

Mal Shelton is an American fantasy writer living in Central Oklahoma. When not writing, she is visiting her favorite park, planning that eventual road-trip, scribbling notes on a scrap of paper, or drinking more coffee.

“The rules are simple. Take your work, but never yourself, seriously. Pour in the love and whatever skill you have, and it will come out.” —Chuck Jones

“Writers are desperate people and when they stop being desperate they stop being writers.” —Charles Bukowski

“A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, or because everything she does is golden. A writer is a writer because, even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.” —Junot Diaz, Professor of Writing, Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, 2008

“We must do our work for its own sake, not for fortune or attention or applause.” —Stephen Pressfield, "War of Art"
