I've never been to one, but have heard that conferences are very good opportunities for networking. You've got to be talkative though. Usually they can sense if you're a newbie, and they'll try to be kind, but there's only so much they can do to include you in conversation. You've got to go mingle, get your name out there, make yourself someone you'll remember. Good luck!

writers conferences are a great way to schmooze. a lot of times agents a nd publishers attend them.
