When Love Is Not Enough

Strength we had

But not enough.

It seems the power we thought was ours

Never was

And Hercules himself would have to laugh.

Confidence and high hopes

Left with a half full cup-

Fools we were to think

Our love could hold us up.

 

The physics behind it

We had all worked out

Victims of belief

Without a stumbling doubt

Speeding through the paperwork

With blinkers

For eyes

Fools we were to think

Our love had a limit

Beyond just the skies.

 

Faith we had

But the blindness

Wears off fast

And what you said today

Will too

Come to pass

Together

Hand in hand

Bound only by our past

Fools we were to think

Our love would last.

I really like the way you start out each stanza. It gives the poem a lovely symmetry and balance, which creates a gentle flow, punctuated by emotion. A lovely piece.

Sometimes love needs work. And sometimes it cannot survive the decisions we make. It has certain key elements to work but it takes both sides to really keep it together. I love this poem. ^^*
