Walls Closing in

Walls Closing in

A Story by Poeta Maldito

Walls closing in, shadows of my scream,

Homies turned strangers, a shattered, bad dream.

One outburst, a label they brand with such ease,

"Mentally sick," a wall built to appease.

Empty texts echo, unanswered they lie,

Meet-ups they dodge with a practiced goodbye.

Their laughter, once music, now grates like a knife,

The bond we once cherished, cut short of its life.

Is this the price for a moment unfurled?

Vulnerability cast to a judgmental world?

I yearn for a hand, a voice in this plight,

But understanding's a ghost in the night.

They fear the unknown, the depths I displayed,

A burden too heavy, a friendship decayed.

I long for forgiveness, a chance to explain,

To mend what's been broken, erase all the pain.

But silence speaks volumes, a deafening plea,

Their loyalty fractured, replaced with unease.

Am I doomed to this island, alone in the storm?

A shipwreck of friendship, forever forlorn?

Yet, hope flickers faintly, a ember alight,

That love can rebuild, in the darkest of night.

For true friends, they'll weather the storm's bitter sting,

And in the wreckage of sorrow, compassion will bring.

About
I'm a wordsmith by day, but some might call me a verbal contortionist by night. While I lack the social graces of a mime and the singing voice of a dial-up modem, I channel my awkwardness into poetry.. more..
