The Mirror

The Mirror

A Poem by Kianna L. Bearden
"

The 7th deadly sin at work.

"

Look upon that crystal clear

shard of glass standing there

innocently hiding

the monster of despair,

What do you see

In this wondrous mirror?

Do you see your painted face

locked forever in stilled grace?

Or something darker in its place?

Can you see that something else

Lies beyond your face, your true self?

Can you see what I see

in that deceitful mirror?

Beyond your enchanting eyes

Hide the never-ending lies,

That angry viper you despise

And have locked away

with a silver key

Is that what you see

in the mirrored prison?

You, the sin of vanity

treat yourself so prettily

sitting oh so daintily

in front of your beloved mirror

not knowing that your beauty

Is not quite so impressive

your core is rotten with self-appreciation

you think yourself so mighty

in front of that mighty mirror

And you slowly waste away

Not knowing that each day

as you sit in front of that

captivating piece of mirror

Your looks can kill

they have killed you

you are your slave

forever to

look upon that piece of glass

that dangerous mirror
