My biggest fear

Is becoming fat,

Is being alone.

My biggest fear

Is being criticised,

Failing.

My biggest fear,

Is someone finding out,

What I do

When I'm all alone...

My biggest fear,

Is people finding out,

What hides beneath,

The mask I've made.

My biggest fear

Is not being perfect,

Not being who others want me to be.

My biggest fear,

Is losing my self-control,

Losing everything I've built.

My biggest fear,

Letting go,

Letting go of the demons inside.

My biggest fear,

Is my past.

Fear is most definitely a damaging thing. I hope writing this and seeing your fears in black and white might be a first step in conquering. We all have fears and are afraid of something but its those that build courage and face them that find out most of them are self induced. Poetry for myself is a great therapy.

let me tell you one thing 1disawsum.. i also used to have the same kinds of fear described in your poem. this poem brings back past memories. one of the saddest things in life are the things we remember. this is something that you will never be able to escape from. but we have to get stronger and face the world. i guess thats the only thing we can do.
keep writing my love. :)

Yes, it's very true. We do need to build up the confidence and face the world with courage so high, nothing can tear it back down again. but it's hard... but needed to do if you want to survive out here in this ferocious world! Thankyou! xx

Fear is not something to be afraid of. It is smart and rational. But bravery trumps fear. Bravery overcomes fear. And whether you know it or not your words are brave. Sharing poetry of any kind is brave and in this type of open format takes an incredible amount of bravery. So embrace your fear because you my dear are all kinds of brave.......remember that in those moments when you feel most alone. Because shame and fear are only temporary ---bravery is in your soul..etched in your DNA.

I don't know you
But I do because I've been there
And when you embrace your truth
That your past does not define you
It is only a chapter in your story
You will realize that these moments
Are just that..moments
And you will not introduce yourself
As a series of traumas or
Feel you have to explain yourself.....
You will one day embrace yourself when you realize
That yours is the only voice that matters and
A mirror does not reflect beauty
For true beauty is being comfortable in your own skin.

thankyou, very kind words you've written for me. Yes, fear is only what your mind creates, isn't it? Yes, I've also written another poem called Strength, Courage and Bravery on here, and it kind of relates in a way to what you are trying to say about bravery. This poem for me, is timeless, because those are what I will always fear. Being a failure, becoming fat, being criticised and stared at like a mannequin in a fashion outlet, I will always fear those.
Your past makes up a part of you, it becomes moulded into who you are now. So yes, in a way, the past does define you. it defines how you see things as they are now, it defines how you act and explains your actions and motives now. But you are also correct in saying that your past does not define you It won't define you if you choose to let it go, and start fresh. I like your point of view, a lot. Thankyou for reviewing!!!
