Flash Fiction/Nano Fiction/about 101 words.

Somewhere just beyond Midnight it crouches, gathering its energies, peering through the hole into the darkness, waiting for the right moment, acting on instinct and hunger.

Its tense body senses unsheathed claws and swishing tail; feels the primordial terror, and imminent kill.

It is doing what its kind, eons ago, were created to do.

A sudden lunge, its claws scrabbling on the cold kitchen linoleum, the mouse makes its desperate sprint past its age-old nemesis the cat, climbs the table leg, scampers away with a piece of cheese.

Sheer luck has been its companion this time--but what about the next?

The structure put me off a little bit, but I like the imagery you used, for sure. It was also a little repetitive. Specifically the word 'its' was used a lot. Overall, though, you painted a nice picture.
