did you forget;

did you forget;

A Poem by C.

did you forget
the nights we laughed
like there was no hate in the world
did you forget
the nights we yelled
and hated each other
did you forget
me

did you forget
those nights in your truck
staring at the stars
thinking infinity existed
did you forget
that night
when my hands were shaking
and I told you I loved you
and you said you loved me too
did you forget
me

did you forget
the nights I cried
and I said I was sorry
like you hurting me was my fault
did you forget
the nights you cried
and I still apologized
did you forget
me

did you forget
when I said goodbye
and we both cried
did you forget
how much you said you loved me
did you forget
that I always doubted it
did you forget
how you proved I was right
why did you forget
me

Opening and ending the stanzas with the same words added zest to your theme.
It's human nature to forget. People forget even the parents which brought them to earth.
Nice verse.

I love the structure and the repetition of certain lines and words. And yes, when love turns sour, it's so difficult to move on and resist trying to explain away everything that happened. But even the worst of circumstances thankfully, do not last too long and we almost always make it out on the other side, wiser and stronger (and maybe a bit more paranoid) than before.

Beautifully penned. Keep writing!
