LONELY KEYBOARD

LONELY KEYBOARD

A Poem by DONALD EISSLER
"

A TWEEK OF SOMETHING FROM BEFORE

"

On this lonely keyboard
I am typing lonely words.
Remembering voices and visions,
That once I saw and heard.
.
The first words of our children,
The love of their mother too.
Both echo in my mind
As I sit here and write to you.
.
Funny how the memories
Of such a distant past
Seem to come and haunt me.
Damn, time has gone so fast!
.
Was it not that long ago
We were young and full of life?
Remember to the moment
When I asked you to be my wife.
.
All you did was nod your head,
So excited you could not speak.

Really didn't know what to think
As tears ran down your cheek.
.

We married on an autumn day,
Trees with leaves of red and brown.
The luster from their colors
Enhanced your beauty in your gown.
.
The years have past so quickly,
Our children have all grown.
Grandchildren on my knee,
But alas, I play with them alone.
.
Know you're here in spirit,
Can feel you close by me.
I show the kids your picture,
Tell them how things used to be.
.
All I have are memories now
Of your smile and your kiss.
I really never knew how much
Your loving I would miss.
.
Days on this lonely keyboard
Typing words from a lonely heart.
Knowing that I'll join you soon
And that we shall never part.

.

I push aside my keyboard

For now I see the light.

Your hand I feel upon my head.
I know now, I'll be with you tonight

This is a beautiful nostalgic poem. It's sad to read of memories and things gone. I never thought of a keyboard being lonely, but I guess it can when someone lonely types on it.
