Smile

Walking midmorning,

another cold day

in Los Angeles,

and the ever present sound

of comfortable shoes

echoes down the alleyway.

The paper under my arm

is two days old

but poignant,

another dead drag queen,

and the 7-11 on Hollywood and Vine

is under new ownership,

the things I put

in my scrapbook.

I stop to scratch

my name in a

city bench,

just before

the good old black and white

slows down

to get a better look.

At me.

And I keep walking.

Alone in the thousand faces,

retreating out in the open,

the more they see of me

the less I’ll be seen,

and I can finally smile

that big smile.

Like I always wanted too.

Reviews

This is very quaint in a way. I really like the 'haiku-esque' vibe I get from reading this. Good, straightforward feel to it.
