No Longer Barren

No Longer Barren

A Poem by Abhishek Ram
"

This is a poem about longing for a soulmate, a longing for a lover

"

As the night comes to an end,

As time starts to slow to lightspeed

As our awareness begins to descend,

Have you been planted with love's seeds?

As reality relieves insanity, as biology leaves humanity,

As we leave our island upon which we were stranded,

As masculinity and femininity clashed in proximity,

Is our now quasi-love to be abandoned?

Will we not allow plants to grow upon our once barren relationship,

Plants that stemmed first from the touching of two sets of lips?

Will these flora grow to be healthy forever,

Or are they to wither to die and be reborn whenever?

Is this human exchange simply imperative speaking,

Or could it be possibly something defiant of pure biology?

Could it be biochemistry instead, from something chemical reaction inducing,

Maybe something found universally,

Love starts war, within and without,

A perfect storm of emotions expressed,

In the form of flirtation or a general shout,

Or simply the feeling of being obsessed,

With that in mind, how do you feel now?

Did we create a perfect storm?

Did our armies wage war?

Did your universe change at all now?

Because, everything has changed,

Things are different for me now,

Its as if I am on a stage,

Acting to the world, you being it now.

I had no world, no universe,

Just a barren stretch of land,

But now we've planted and grown flowers,

In a way that I cannot understand,

I hope you change your mind,

I hope you tend those flowers with me,

From the roses to the tulips to the dandelions,

I hope you're there with me.
