Sorting It Out

"

The Merging has taken place and now Chris and his dragon must learn to co-exist

"

Jessica looked over to him as they returned back to the human realm from the place where Syrll and Chris had been joined. Somehow he looked different. Sure he still had the same tall build, the same blue eyes the same long brown hair the same kind smile she always saw when he looked at her and although he looked more well than she ever remembered seeing him on her web cam during the many months of conversations they had had, there was something about him in the actual flesh that just made her knees go weak.

She remembered her joining with Syreena and the awful headaches she had had as a result while her mind learned to separate her own thoughts from that of the dragon and also as she felt new areas of her own mind awakening. Even though she had become empathic as one of the side effects of the merging, she had been able to link with just about every person she had ever come into contact with, but for some reason she had never been able to link with Chris, but then, she didn’t really have to. His eyes and his body language spoke of honesty and his words to her always rang of truth. She had no reason to ever suspect he had ever been anything less than truthful with her on any matter and on the day a few months ago, that he had given up on his inner conflict and had spoken the words “I love you” to her, she believed those words more than she had believed anything anyone had ever spoken to her. She had known they came straight from his heart and had no need of the confirmation of the dragon’s powers to believe them.

She could see the confusion in his face now as thousands of years of thoughts and memories seemed to be fighting to overwhelm him. She wished she could help him but the best she could really do was offer useless advice and stay with him until Syrll had fully integrated with him and they had both settled into their places. It didn’t really matter what suggestions she gave as she knew that each merging was a unique process, different for everyone, so the things she had experienced during her merging with Syreena probably wouldn’t even apply so she simply sat holding his hand in hers and being ready for if he asked her anything.

She knew it was taking a toll on him as he had been silent for the last couple of hours which was most unusual. She wondered just what conflict was going on inside his mind.

Very little of the outside world was registering with Chris. He knew Jessica was beside him and that she held his hand in hers, but other than that nothing else much registered. Chris's thoughts, feelings, emotions and every other aspect of his personality was focused inwards. Processing, separating itself from the new being that now also inhabited his mind. The Dragon known as Syrll had moved in line some recently evicted friend and had brought everything he possessed with him.

Of course it wasn't just Chris who was separating his thoughts form the alien ones. Syrll too was trying to do the same thing, thus far there had been no communication between the two, simply shuffling, moving and rearranging of synapses. It came as quite a surprise when Chris finally heard Syrll's deep voice echoing through his mind.

“It has been a long time I have waited for this day. I had no idea though that human minds were full of so much JUNK!” he complained.

Chris was taken aback a bit by the rudeness of Syrll. He then realised that it wasn't actually something that had been spoken to him, more that he had read the thoughts of the blue dragon.

Chris concentrated and thought one sentence with all of his energy “Look who's talking!”

Suddenly the movement coming from Syrll stopped as he seemed to be somewhat startled by Chris's mental voice speaking to him.

“Aaah I see that we have finally gotten to the point where we can communicate.” The blue dragon’s voice spoke within Chris's head. “Good! That should make things so much easier from here on out.”

“Oh great!” he thought to himself, or so he thought. “Just what I need... Someone constantly eavesdropping on my thoughts!”

“Well it does work both ways.” the reply came.

Mentally Chris conceded. So this was to be life from now on. He'd just have to learn to get used to the idea of his thoughts no longer being private. That even his most intimate fantasies which all men have during their “alone times” would be shared with Syrll. That thought he found kind of disturbing in itself. Even more so, when it dawned on him that maybe dragons also had those moments and he would have to endure thoughts of naked she-dragons.

Mentally he shuddered at the thought before Syrll spoke again. “You have no need to worry on that score. I spent many years being taught how joining works and the mechanics behind it all. Once we can sort our minds from one another’s we will be able to erect a filter that either of us can raise or lower to protect those parts of ourselves that we do not wish to share, or have shared”

In his mind, Chris breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you Syrll. I'm you told me that. It will make life a little more comfortable.”

The Dragon in him spoke again. “Oh. By the way... Call me Syrox. I prefer it to Syrll. Far too many years of being referred to as Syrll the Squirrel for my liking. Plus it seems to have a much better ring to it if the truth be told.”

“Syrox it is then!” Chris thought. He also couldn’t help but wonder just what life was going to be like with the brother of the Queen of the dragons inhabiting his mind. Also he couldn't help but wonder what powers he might gain from the merging. Silka had spoken of them, that the bringing together of the 2 entities so he had assumed there must be SOMETHING to look forward to. Maybe it would be instant, or maybe it would be something that would develop in time, either way he was looking forward to finding out.

Slowly the pair sorted out the synapses and Chris's surroundings began to register a bit more in his mind. He could see his house, the furniture. He became aware of the sounds around him, the smells and the feel of the clothes he was wearing. He also became aware of Jessica's concerned gaze upon him and then suddenly he became aware of her thoughts too, she was worried... no... concerned at the internal struggle he was undergoing. As well as many other emotions which he was struggling to sort out due to his own inner confusion. He formed a thought in his mind “I'm OK Jess. We're getting there slowly,” and then attempted to project it toward her and was startled and amused a bit when her expression changed. Had she heard him? He wasn't quite sure but felt it was definitely going to be worth further exploration.

Syrox was non-stop talking in his mind. Explaining the ins and out's of joining, what he could expect and what he would gain from it. Well as far as the texts had taught him anyway. Syrox had never been joined either so this was a new experience for them both. Although he had told Chris that he would have the ability to swap forms at will, he warned that he should expect some severe discomfort for the first few times when doing so. After all, there was a lot of dragon crammed into his small human frame.

The next days and weeks would certainly be a unique experience. Chris was already beginning to feel more powerful than he had ever been before. He wasn't sure if that was the dragon, Jessica, purely himself, or a combination of all of the above, but he liked it and was so glad that he had chosen this.

“To the future!” he thought to himself. Syrox replied.

“To the future, my new companion!” and at the same time he saw Jessica mouth the words “The future.” before smiling toward him.
