Person, take your time with your waiting,

But know that my second beat will not wait so long,

Travel, Person, to where the land calls you,

But know that following is not in my path.

 

Everywhere, I know that I have before me,

But nowhere is my dearest confident.

Person, this melancholy love is strange,

And change will not settle our circumstances.

 

I had thought, Person, that my skin could not be plucked,

When sharp teeth scraped near my mouth,

But kisses cannot sooth this flesh.

Person, the rain in your eyes is but a desert.

 

The diamonds that you stole from my heyday,

Have traveled to somewhere that I have not known.

Person, please know that my steps can only falter,

If you try to take me away.
