Andria

Andria

A Poem by alex-marie
"

Inspiration from La Dispute. Retells of certain moments and attributes of another, identifying how one person may think they know someone, but ironically, they become unknown to them.

"
Andria

How you smiled through the smoke,
in that crowded little coffeehouse, laughing at my jokes.
And at night, we made love, my hands around your throat.
How we wasted the best of us in alcohol or sweat,
how you'd laugh, when we danced,
like the first time we met.
And i remember how you dressed,
always adequate at best, but i loved it.
But how you'd say, you were scared of commitment,
though tattoos marked your skin,
was I not worth the pain? or was a lifetime too long?
no answer, you'd grin.

How i hid, when i cried, silently away,
and that spot on your wrist id always touch, out of nothing to say-
But you were never really close, you see,
just a stones throw away,
but no matter how hard i tried, mid flight,
that stone would decay.
So i dove deep, gave all my strength,
reaching further each time,
but ignorant to the damage you felt, i felt,
left behind.

So now you're gone, in the flesh,
but so vivid in my mind.
But dear, I'll remember these things,
these how's, your features, and ''I'm fine''
But ironically in the end,
the one how i could never find
was how you mended, so fast,
in the arms of another.
 No damage,
no imprint,
our love now undefined.

You really capture the spirit and sense of this breakup. I like the part about not liking committent-although having tattoos. Nice.
