When the lights went out

I remember when the power went out and the world went dark 

But you already had the candles lit for me 

Because you knew how I liked to see 

The shadows on your skin 

And the orange glow 

Light up you face 

You said it felt like the end of the world 

But I didn’t feel anything 

Just the warmth of you beside me 

In your cold room 

As you held me close 

And I think I’ll remember that the most 

Not that the world was ending 

Or the people outside with the flashlights on their phones as they looked for clues 

Just that If the world was ending
